Virginia Senator Mark Warner Skyped with a group of seniors at Charlottesville High School yesterday, encouraging them to take a stand regarding immigration policy. As part of his Speak Up For Immigration lesson on UClass, Warner reached out to students who represent households directly affected by immigration legislation.
During the discussion, Warner explained current policies and introduced the DREAM Act, a bill that allows children of illegal immigrants to become citizens of the United States. The video conference gave students an opportunity to converse directly with a policymaker about legislation that affects them.
Reflecting on the session, one insightful student shared, “It was very powerful and empowering. It gave me the feel that I can make a change and that I am the face of Virginia.” Watch this 40-second local news clip briefing their discussion about the UClass lesson.
